Joining Forces
What is Joining Forces?
- A collaborative program between LCDJFS and Lorain County JVS working with the students
- A social worker is assigned to work with students who exhibit developmental, behavioral, or academic problems that interfere with successful school performance
What issues does the Joining Forces Social Worker address with JVS students?
Services vary depending on the needs of the student. The following examples are just some of the issues the social worker may assist the students with during the school year:
- Anger management
- Crisis intervention
- Domestic violence
- Family abuse and other family issues
- Homeless issues
- Mediation
- Mental health issues
- Peer relationship skills, conflict resolution
- Self-esteem issues
- Suicide prevention
In addition, the Joining Forces Social Worker arranges for presenters to speak to the students about various social issues. Some of the presenters scheduled in the past are listed below:

- Hospice of Western Reserve
- Human Trafficking Task Force
- Lorain County AIDS Task Force
- Lorain County Health Department
- Lorain County Historical Society
